Sunset over the Continental Divide - Colorado

If I could suggest seeing or doing any one thing in Colorado, it is to go watch the sunset over the Continental Divide. Goodness. This place enchants me!
It is a simple 40 minute drive from Colorado Springs, and SO worth it. There are many places along the way that are considered local gems, like Paradise Cove in Guffey, the South Platte River in Elevenmile Canyon, and if you drive a little ways down into the valley, there is a beautiful state park that wraps around Elevenmile Reservoir. Across the valley you will find numerous hot springs as well as other local attractions like white water rafting.
About an 11 minute drive past Lake George into the canyon is a Tourist center with information, parking, and trails to overlook the Divide. If you pass that and go a little further, there is a big pulloff to your left that has lots of room to stretch and wait for the sun to set, which I PROMISE is an experience you probably shouldn't pass up.
To get there:
- Head west on Hwy 24 from Colorado Springs about 40 minutes towards Lake George
- 11 miles past Lake George, turn left into the Tourist Information Center
This is a guaranteed way to see the awe inspiring beauty of the Rocky Mountains whether you're visiting or are a local/native. Just be sure to check what time golden hour happens as well as the weather in Lake George because Colorado is unpredictable with weather and such!

To take the path less traveled by to Paradise Cove swimming hole, you can get directions and read my post about it here!

Don't forget to take the side stop and stretch your legs by the South Platte River just outside of Lake George; only a short drive to the lookout point at the edge of the Continental Divide! I have information about it as well as photos of the area here.

Drive a little ways down into the Continental Divide and spend the night camping in Elevenmile State Park. More information here!
