Now this is a beautiful place is located in Elevenmile Canyon, just outside of Lake George, right off of Highway 24. The steady flowing river zig-zags all the way down the pass, and is a popular spot for avid anglers and birdwatchers. There is a dirt road that follows it down into the woods and it is a lovely drive in any season.

When you come around the bend and the river is on your right side, pull off into the dirt area and get out. You won't regret it. Just the views alone are amazing! There is an open area that is great for throwing a ball for your dog or letting your kids stretch their legs from the trip to elsewhere. In the winter it stays just warm enough to avoid getting icy, but in the summer gets warm enough along the shallow bank that it becomes a splendid swimming spot. Just be aware that there is a current in the middle. It's not too strong; just perfect for tubing down the river when the water levels are up.

Anytime I'm headed across state to the hot springs out west, this is a place I always make time for. Just beautiful Colorado scenery at it's finest!

To get there:

-Head west on Hwy 24 about 36 miles towards Lake George

-Turn left in Lake George onto Co Rd 96 and follow the river through the canyon

There are camp sites as well as picnic areas in the canyon for those who want to spend more time there. Also, if you're looking to catch some trout, look into local fishing guides. They're available everywhere and will always guarantee an amazing experience in an area of unparalleled beauty!
